Explosion and Impact Engineering Laboratory

The Explosion and Impact Engineering Laboratory at Kumamoto University investigates high-rate deformation, fracture, and materials processing under extreme loading conditions. Our research integrates explosion and impact experiments, high-speed measurement and visualization, numerical simulation, explosive welding and forming, and shock synthesis to understand dynamic phenomena and develop advanced engineering technologies.

Research Facilities and Equipment

Our laboratory houses the only research facility of its kind among Japan’s national universities, enabling comprehensive explosion and impact experiments using energetic materials. We conduct integrated research ranging from the measurement and visualization of explosion and impact phenomena to materials processing and synthesis.

Research

We investigate high-rate deformation and fracture phenomena caused by explosions and impact through experimental measurement and visualization, numerical analysis, materials processing, and materials synthesis. By combining experiments with numerical simulations, we seek to elucidate these phenomena and develop new technologies.
